Clothes Aid recovers £500 in cash for householder!

Alisa Taperell was thrilled as Clothes Aid located her son’s money in Papworth Hospital collection bag.

Supporting her local hospital almost turned into a costly affair for Alisa Taperell of Ipswich when she left a bag of used clothes out for collection on 12 May 2009. But thanks to Clothes Aid’s recovery efforts, the story has a happy ending.

Receiving the collection bag through her door, Alisa Taperell filled it with her family’s unwanted clothes and put it outside her house on Tuesday morning to be picked up by Clothes Aid on behalf of Papworth Hospital Charity.

But she didn’t realise that inside her son’s old denim jacket there was an envelope containing £500. When she found out two days later, she immediately called the Clothes Aid Helpline and told them what had happened.

The big search

Early on Friday morning, Clothes Aid’s local area managers, Michelle and Robbie Hudson, went to their warehouse and sifted through thousands of bags to find the jacket. It took three and a half hours, but in the end they managed to find the right bag and called Alisa Taperell straight away to tell her the good news.

Speaking from her home Alisa said "I was happy to fill the bag and support Papworth as they do such excellent work for people with heart and lung problems, but it was a bit of a shock when I had discovered what had happened. I am so relieved that Clothes Aid was so helpful and friendly and able to recover the money for me in such a short space of time”.
