Yorkshire Cancer Centre

The St James's Institute of Oncology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust delivers a wide range of cancer services to the people of Yorkshire. The Institute is an outstanding world-class facility that allows us to build on our existing strengths and deliver unparalleled levels of cancer care and treatment in the region.
The Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal plays a vital role in supporting this facility, helping to ensure the Institute of Oncology continues to deliver unparalleled levels of cancer care and treatment at the highest level. The new cancer wing at the St James's Institute will centralise and expand many of the services and support provided by Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal for a catchment population of 2.6 million people from West, North and East Yorkshire and beyond.
Revolutionising cancer care
More than 200,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer each year - that's 600 cases every day. But despite these statistics, great advances are being achieved in cancer services, and survival rates have improved significantly in the last 25 years.
Our new state-of-the-art cancer wing will ensure that even more people survive the disease.
A centre of excellence in care and research
The new Institute of Oncology at St James's is a world-class institute for teaching, research and development. Key researchers and practitioners in the field of cancer for the whole of the UK will provide high quality cancer care by developing and exploiting cutting edge science, research and technology.
Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal
To realise our vision, we need to raise £10 million by 2010.
The Appeal will fund:
- specialist medical equipment that keeps the very latest technology an accessible reality
- patient "home from home" comforts
- ground breaking scientific research that will lead to new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer
- environmental and arts projects that uplift, soothe and heal patients
Clothing donations
As part of our fundraising initiative, we have appointed the clothing collection company Clothes Aid. Our clothing donation bags are delivered door to door across the region. By filling these bags with the clothing, shoes and household textiles you no longer use, you can help us achieve our fundraising goals.
Yorkshire Cancer Centre receives at least £100,000 a year from the proceeds raised through the sale of your donations. In the case of one-stop collections, Yorkshire Cancer Centre will receive £300 per tonne collected. Read more about one-stop collections here.
The funds raised through your clothing donations will have a direct impact on existing patients being treated at the Institute of Oncology as well as the generations of patients who will need these specialist services in the fight against cancer.
