The Cancer Centre at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust delivers a wide range of cancer services to the people of Yorkshire. Currently under construction at St James's University Hospital is an outstanding world-class new facility that will allow us to build on our existing strengths and deliver unparalleled levels of cancer care and treatment in the region.

Bigger and better

The new wing at St James's will centralise and expand many of the services of the existing Yorkshire Cancer Centre for a catchment population of 2.6 million people from West, North and East Yorkshire and beyond. Once complete, this landmark facility will be the largest of its kind in Europe.

Revolutionising cancer care

More than 200,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer each year - that's 600 cases every day. But despite these statistics, great advances are being achieved in cancer services and survival rates have improved significantly in the last 25 years.

Our new state-of-the-art centre will ensure that even more people survive the disease.

A centre of excellence in care and research

The new Yorkshire Cancer Centre will be a world-class institute for teaching, research and development. Key researchers and practitioners in the field of cancer for the whole of the UK will provide high quality cancer care by developing and exploiting cutting edge science, research and technology.

Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal

To realise our vision, we need to raise £10 million by 2010.

The Appeal will fund:

  • specialist medical equipment that keeps the very latest technology an accessible reality
  • patient "home from home" comforts
  • ground breaking scientific research that will lead to new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer
  • environmental and arts projects that uplift, soothe and heal patients

Clothing donations

As part of our fundraising initiative, we have recently appointed the clothing collection company Clothes Aid. Our clothing donation bags are being delivered door to door across the region. By filling these bags with the clothing, shoes and household textiles you no longer use, you can help us achieve our fundraising goals. Yorkshire Cancer Centre receives 75 per cent of the proceeds raised through the sale of your donations.

The funds raised through your clothing donations will have a direct impact on the very first patients who will use the centre from 2008 as well as the generations of patients who will need these specialist services in the fight against cancer.
